Just days after the news of the new COVID-19 mutant made the headlines, another COVID-19 strain has been detected in the UK. Two new cases of the latest variant were reported in the United Kingdom which has been termed “highly concerning” and spreads easier and faster than the previous COVID-19 cases.

Matt Hancock, the British Health Secretary announced the news about the virus on Wednesday while stating the areas of UK that will be put under Tier 4 lockdown.
Downing even stated that this discovery has resulted in new set of quarantine rules for the recent visitors from South Africa as that is where the second variant was discovered and the two people effected are said to be the contacts of someone travelling between the two countries.
Mr. Hancock also stated that: “This new variant is highly concerning because it is yet more transmissible and it appears to have mutated further than the new variant discovered in the UK.” He even announced a range of new measures that should be taken to avoid the virus from spreading further.
He further added that: “Anyone in the UK who has been in South Africa in the past fortnight and anyone who is a close contact of someone who has been in South Africa in the last fortnight, must quarantine immediately. They must restrict all contact with any other person whatsoever.“
The UK strain is being to have mutated itself and become even more powerful that the previous waves of the virus. The countries currently effected with the new variant are Germany, the UK and South Africa.
