The social media app Twitter came to life in 2006 and has been a very big part of everyone’s life. Whether it be artists, actors, politicians, or influencers, they keep us updated through constant tweets and everyday happening by sending out various “tweets” every day. Now, many verified accounts that have been unused for a long time will be un-verified as Twitter is about to re-launch verification policy in 2021.

The app discontinued its verification process in 2017 after the account verification of white-supremacist Jason Kessler outraged many users of the app. The account was later seen without the blue checkmark and no users had been verified since, until now.
In a blog published Twitter itself on December 17th, it was told that the app would be bringing back the verification process but with certain limitations to the new policy.
The new regulations state that a previously verified account that has remained inactive for a long time will be un-verified again and the person will lose the blue checkmark to their profile. Other than that, anyone found violating Twitter’s rules and regulations will lose their rights to an original profile as well.
Moreover, the app will memorializing the accounts of any deceased user and has expanded the categories for the users with “Activists, organizers, and other influential individuals” being added to the list.
Lastly, human and bot-run accounts will be labeled so people can easily distinguish between the two!
