Senate and House US election 2020:

The people of the United States are also electing 2 chambers of congress. The one is Senate and the other one is the House Of Representatives.

There are 100 members of the Senate. In the Senate, Republicans have a majority with 43 to 57 seats. Democrats have 48 seats and for controlling the Senate 51 seats are required so Joe Biden needs 3 more seats to control the Senate.

There are 435 members in the House. Democrats have a majority in the House of Representatives with 222 House seats and for controlling or winning the House, 218 House seats are required so it is safe to say that Democrats have a majority in the House Of Representatives. Meanwhile, Republicans have 197 House seats.

How does the US election work:

The US election works with a system called electoral college votes to decide a winner.

Every state of the United States including Washington DC has given several electoral college votes. The number of electoral college votes is decided based on the population of the state. The more populous states, the more number of electoral votes.

Because of this rule, the candidate can win the election without getting more votes all over the country. If the person has the highest votes all over the country but has less than 270 electoral college votes, then he will not become the president of the United States.

This has happened in the last election in which Henry Clinton has more votes than Donald Trump at a national level but Donald Trump has more electoral college votes than Henry Clinton. So, he has become the president of the United States.
