The Trump administration has been shelling TikTok for months as it is an app produced by China. Trump issued executive orders to ban the app in the August of 2020 until an unless it was bought by a “very American company”. The ban was supposed to go take effect on the 20th of September but it was delayed due to an agreement between ByteDance (TikTok’s parent company) and Oracle which would result in Oracle buying the app from the Chinese owners. The ban was then postponed indefinitely due to legal challenges by the original TikTok owners.

Of course people did not think much of it in the beginning as the TikToker Isabella Avila (onlyjaysus on TikTok) said: “Back when this was trending a couple of weeks ago, I genuinely didn’t think it was going to be banned.” She later urged her 8 million followers to follow her on other socials as she poste there a lot too!
