According to psychiatrists, many survivors of covid-19 are at a serious stage of developing mental illness. The study found that 20% of those people who are infected with coronavirus are identified with psychiatric disorders in just 90 days. Mental illness is found at greater risk among those who are diagnosed with coronavirus.
According to the study, those people who are recovered with coronavirus, have found anxiety, depression, and insomnia. One unique thing researchers have found in the study, that the people who are recovered from covid-19 have a greater risk of dementia,( a general term for loss of language, memory, and other thinking abilities).
A professor of psychiatry, at Oxford University, Paul Harrison said, people have been worried that the covid-19 survivors have a high risk of mental illness and our study is exactly the same. He further said that doctors all around the world should investigate the causes and discover new treatments for health problems after coronavirus and Health Care Centre should be ready to provide care because we usually underestimate the numbers of psychiatrists patients.
THE STUDY ABOUT COVID-19 PATIENTS AND PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS:
According to the study which is published in The Lancet Psychiatry Journal, from the last 3 months of testing of positive covid-19 patients survivors, one in five survivors has also found mental illness like depression, anxiety, and insomnia.
The study also said that people with pre-existing mental illness are more chances to cause covid-19 than those without.
The specialist mental doctors are not involved in this study but the evidence proved that the coronavirus can affect the brain and mental illness.
PSYCHOLOGISTS REVIEWS ON THIS STUDY:
Professor of psychiatry at King’s College London, Simon Wessely said that those who have mental illness are at higher risk of covid-19 than those without. He further said that the research certifies that the whole story is not true but it is confirmed that the coronavirus can affect the central nervous system which increases the subsequent disorders.
A consultant psychiatrist’s at University College London said that it is due to a combination of psychological stress and the corona pandemic with the physical effects of illness.
INTERESTING POINT ABOUT THE STUDY:
The interesting point about the study is that it is consist of two parts, that there is a connection between the covid-19 and psychiatric illness or mental illness and the other part of the study is hard to measure, which is a lifestyle, daily routine, and individual’s behaviors may play a vital role in mental illness and coronavirus.
